Ultra-Rapid Charging of Heavy-Duty Vehicles Gets Green Light

Heavy, light, short, wide, tall: all kinds of vehicles need to convert to 100% renewable energy. To make this change possible, charging stations for heavy-duty vehicles must be built. And that’s just what we did.

There’s much we don’t know. But one thing is certain: if you build it, change will come.

Electrifying the transport sector thus requires providing the technological conditions for all vehicles to run on electricity. And that means charging.

Smooth, simple, easy, fast: take your pick of adjectives. There is only one solution: public charging stations that can handle heavy-duty vehicles, too. We’ve already built one. Spoiler alert: more are on the way, all over the country!

Breaking new ground

Where did we put our ground-breaking new charging station?
In Skelleftehamn, of course, just outside Skellefteå. The installation is unique in northern Sweden.

It’s surrounded by a range of operators putting it to good use. And, let’s not forget, using it to transition away from fossil fuels.

Today, three lorries or buses can be charged simultaneously! Really fast, too: churning out 300 kW for each vehicle.

This new charging station has set a lot of wheels in motion, so to speak.

Finished?

Not by a long shot.

The aim is that more people will increase renewable transport.

In 2023 alone, Sweden will have 26 new charging stations for the heavyweights of the highway. A major initiative in cooperation with OKQ8 and Volvo Trucks.

We can continue to increase opportunities to operate and charge heavy-duty vehicles along Sweden’s highways.

We’ll take care of the charging stations.
And together, we can bring about a sustainable future.

Fredrik Jonsson, affärsenhetschef Affärsinnovation

”What’s unique about our heavy-duty vehicle ultra-rapid charging initiative is how actors across the value chain are collaborating in a region intensely focused on electrification. Switching to renewable electricity as the primary source of energy is crucial for a sustainable societal transition. Renewable energy enables us to drive the transition with electrified transport and vehicles, among other things.”

Fredrik Jonsson, Business Innovation Manager at Skellefteå Kraft.
